DOCUMENTATION
Game & Watch for Pokémon Mini has been developed specifically for the original Pokémon Mini hardware using a small custom framework written in C and built with the original Epson/TASKING toolchain. The project recreates the behavior and presentation of classic Game & Watch titles while adapting them to the Pokémon Mini’s 96×64 monochrome display, controls, audio, rumble and EEPROM save system. The current release includes Fire, with both Game A and Game B, persistent high scores and support for real hardware as well as the PokeMini emulator.
Development has taken place over several weeks through a highly iterative workflow using Visual Studio, ChatGPT and OpenAI Codex. Rather than generating the project in one pass, features were designed, discussed and implemented as small individual milestones, followed by review, debugging and regression testing before continuing. This resulted in dozens of focused Codex analyses and reports, alongside extensive conversations with ChatGPT covering architecture, gameplay behavior, graphics, memory and performance optimization, EEPROM safety, user interface and hardware-specific issues. Codex was used for controlled implementation and automated validation, while important milestones were repeatedly checked in PokeMini and, where relevant, on the original console.
